More Tories to defect to Labour?

As rumours abound that more Tories are being lined up to defect to Labour - perhaps at the start of next week's Conservative party conference, one can't help but wonder at exactly what set of convictions our 'conviction politician' Gordon Brown has at hand to sell to people that were once so diametrically opposed to so much of what the Labour Party once stood for.

How stupid does David Miliband think we are?

Yesterday at Labour's annual conference in Bournemouth, the foreign secretary David Miliband talked about winning the peace in Iraq. Did I miss something, because I don’t recall seeing an end to the war.
Just because the people killing our troops and innocent Iraqi civilians no longer wear uniforms doesn’t stop it being a war.
We sent our boys into Iraq masked by a smoke screen of half truths, erroneous assumptions and spin... why would we expect the way we withdraw them be any different?

When we withdraw, will we be leaving things better than when we found them in Iraq? I wonder how many returning troops would like to tell Gordon Brown to stick his 25% council tax discount somewhere dark and warm and instead be told the real reason they had to watch friends and comrades die.Labels: 25% council tax discount, Bournemouth, cartoon, David Miliband, foreign secretary, Gordon Brown, Iraq, Labour Party conference, troop withdrawal, winning the peace

Gordon gets on with the job

At his first Labour Party conference speech as leader,Mr Brown made no mention of any election in his speech, has so far refused to rule out an autumn poll.
Earlier in a BBC interview ahead of his speech he had said he was "getting on with the job".

Don't watch that... WATCH THIS!

Gordon attempts to divert some of the attention that the whole Northern Rock affair is attracting by vilifying easy target Robert Mugabe; a national leader who makes anyone look like a paragon of financial acumen by comparison.

Tremble before the Mighty Ming

Not exactly 'Go back to your constituencies and prepare for government', but Sir Ming Cambell's call to smash the "cosy consensus" between Labour under Gordon Brown and the Conservatives under David Cameron did ring a little over ambitious, don't you think?

The Northern Rock Crisis won't flush away

Gordon Brown tries to flush the Northern Rock crisis but every time we're told its gone, it just keeps coming back. What's more, there's other stuff that's floating to the surface that doesn't smell too good either.

Things ain't going Emperor Ming's way

In Brighton town at the Lib Dem Conference, poor ole Emperor Ming doesn't seem to be able to excite the imagination of the British population with promises of an Migrant Amnesty or EU Referendum.

"It's deja vu, all over again!"

Isn't it a bit spooky how queues on the high street follow so swiftly on the heels of Saatchi and Saatchi's winning of the Labour Party Advertising account?

Gordon Brown as Flash Gorgon

Having flagged 'Gorgon Brown' a couple of days ago, I had to do something with the idea, so here he is. Gordon Brown as Flash Gorgon with the opposition standing impotent and atrophied in his glare. Can he keep this up?

Remember that you saw him here first.
BTW: The 'Emperor Ming' is too much of gift! Unfortunately he's too peripheral a figure to feature much... ho hum.

Gordon Brown... on the shoulders of giants?

No 10 has denied that Gordon Brown "exploited" Lady Thatcher for political ends by inviting her to Downing Street.

The Reading East MP Rob Wilson, asked, "Was this another carefully-choreographed Brown 'dog-whistle' to Conservative-minded electors that it's 'safe' to vote for him?"
As if.

Saatchi and Saatchi to handle Labour's advertising

Labour has appointed Margaret Thatcher's favourite ad agency Saatchi and Saatchi to handle its advertising at the next general election.
The slogan which won the agency the account was "not flash, just Gordon".

The appointment comes amid speculation Prime Minister Gordon Brown is planning to call a snap election.

Only 2 Comments so far. Robert and Palmer: Cheers and thanks for taking the time. S'funny, but I did think of whether Ruby (Rue B) needed to be present in this one, but so early on, I think she needs a high profile as she is the brand. I may give her a day off every now and then later, but for now she's got to earn her keep.
Today was my first crack at caricaturing Gordon Brown... with that fringe snaking its way down his forehead, I was thinking what I could do with 'Gorgon Brown'... maybe later.
BTW... Can anyone spot who's missing?

Police Fear Criticism

In an interim report, Sir Ronnie Flanagan, the home secretary's senior professional adviser on policing said forces would "over-record and under-deliver" for fear of missing something or being criticised.

"A more risk-averse society has led to a more risk-averse police service, which will at times over-record and under-deliver for fear of missing something or being vulnerable to criticism," he says.

Introducing 'Rue Britannia'

In this age of consensus politics, enlightenment, post feminism and confusion over our national and cultural identity, I thought I’d start throwing pebbles down the well and see if anyone’s interested.Click here to see larger
It’s something I’ve always intended to do but never got around to, but now I’m actually doing something about it. I was a fan of Varoomshka by John Kent in the Guardian back in the 70s and this is something of a tribute to him too. I’m at the stage where I’ve
- Developed the character (I’ve made her mixed race to reflect the UK’s diversity)
- Put her in her first situation
- Bought the domain and hosting (com and .co.uk)
- Scribbled layouts for the website (2nd on the ‘to do’ after next piece)
It’s my intention to do others, so any feedback or suggestions as to what I should do with her are appreciated.Labels: blame, blame game, cartoon, Rhys Jones, Rue Britannia
